The demand for healthcare workers is at an all-time high, particularly in the post-acute sector, which includes long-term care facilities. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are essential in providing direct care to residents in skilled nursing facilities.
Along with nurses and other healthcare professionals, CNAs are beginning to look for unique opportunities to broaden their clinical knowledge and gain industry experience - interim travel assignments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, travel CNAs are in higher demand than ever before. Many states have made exceptions for CNAs and other healthcare workers, granting reciprocity, and allowing them to travel and practice in greater capacities in order to maintain adequate staff in buildings that are experiencing crisis.
Travel CNAs, or Interim CNAs, must have a high school diploma or GED and successfully complete a state-approved training program and skills test. At LeaderStat, we require all CNAs to be state tested in order to be considered for a travel assignment. In rare instances, facilities may accept someone with a temporary aide license, which means they have not yet been state tested.
Travel CNAs (also written as STNAs – State Tested Nurse Aide, or GNAs – Geriatric Nursing Assistant) are placed on short-term assignments in a variety of settings. With LeaderStat, many of our clients are skilled nursing facilities, so that’s where we see the highest need for travel CNAs.
Travel CNA jobs can last anywhere from 30 days to 13 weeks, and offer an opportunity to develop new skills quickly, learn multiple systems, and adapt to fast-paced work environments. These skills are not only valuable within the CNA role, but are also important for future career advancement.
LeaderStat has a dedicated team of Consultant Specialists to make a travel assignment as seamless as possible. Consultant Specialists are responsible for onboarding and booking travel arrangements, including flights, hotels, and rental cars. Travel CNAs also receive mileage reimbursement at the federal rate, for driving to and from the facility from their home/hotel. With LeaderStat, travelers have minimal out-of-pocket costs during an assignment.
Lots of people fall into the first-time category. Each staffing firm may have different requirements for travelers. With LeaderStat, we ask that candidates be state tested CNAs and have at least two years of experience in a long-term care setting. Before applying for a travel CNA job, candidates should be licensed in the state(s) where they’d like to travel. This process is called reciprocity. Reciprocity requirements vary in every state. To learn more about how to get reciprocity in multiple states, check out our interactive map. Most states require candidates to complete an online or paper application. Some states have a fee associated with reciprocity, while other states are totally free.
Travel CNAs come on with LeaderStat as W2 employees, which means they will receive benefits such as medical, dental and vision insurance, weekly pay, mileage reimbursement, licensure reimbursement and more.
At LeaderStat, we know that things happen. If a travel CNA experiences an issue while on assignment, their Consultant Specialist is their main point of contact. Think of a Consultant Specialist as a stand-in Human Resources manager, available to provide support for the entire duration of a travel assignment. Whether there is an issue within the facility itself (trouble clocking in and out) or with getting reimbursed for mileage or meals, we are here to address these issues so that you can continue to provide the best care possible. Experts are just a call or text away.
It’s easy. Interested candidates can apply for a travel assignment through our website, https://www.leaderstat.com/apply-now/. Once we receive your online application, we’ll create a candidate profile for you, and then have someone reach out to you via call or text to discuss your preferences, availability and next steps.
