Find National Treasure as a Healthcare Employee in Pennsylvania

You can’t make a movie about American treasure and not find yourself in the state of Pennsylvania. Which is exactly what happened as the movie, National Treasure was filmed, leading up to its release in 2004. As one of the original thirteen colonies of America, the Quaker state harbors a rich history and impressive landmarks that beckon traveling healthcare professionals to take on a national treasure hunt of their very own. If you’ve started getting your treasure map ready, here are some great spots to mark your X!

Castle Exploration

You read that right, Castles! Pennsylvania has at least fifteen castles that guests can explore for the day. Some have been turned into museums, restaurants, or spas, so take your pick of how you’d like to spend your day, or plan weekend trips and see them all. In our opinion, every traveling healthcare worker should have the opportunity to feel like royalty once in a while.

Natural Wonders

The Appalachian Mountains run right through the middle of Pennsylvania, creating lots of opportunity for great adventures in nature, but there are two that top the list:

  • World’s End State Park. This park is a must-stop for many travelers. Visitors are welcome to take advantage of the park’s different programs to learn about conservation, and pause to take in the sights of budding tree leaves in the spring, or the vibrancy of fall colors. The park offers several recreational activities from hiking, to wildlife watching, to whitewater boating, just to name a few.
  • The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. It turns out you don’t have to go all the way to Arizona to see a grand canyon! The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is situated in the Pine Creek Gorge and is considered a National Natural Landmark. Hiking trails offer breathtaking views of the canyon’s peaks and valleys. Year-round activities are available to visitors, so there is truly never a bad time to take a trip to this little known natural wonder.

American History Treasures

While there are numerous historical sites all throughout Pennsylvania, these three spots top the list as American History cornerstones:

  • The Gettysburg battlefield is not only well known, it is considered a sort of American pilgrimage to see the site where thousands of American soldiers died for the love of their country. In addition to the battlefield, history buffs enjoy the town’s historical atmosphere where there are endless opportunities to experience the past. Fall is an exceptional time to visit and take part in paranormal tours.
  • The Liberty Bell has stood for centuries, representing liberty for all the inhabitants of the United States of America. Although the bell no longer rings, it still stands as a symbol of freedom as visitors come to admire its message.
  • Independence Hall, not far from the Liberty Bell, is where the United States Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. Arguably one of the most profound destinations in America, Independence Hall welcomes visitors to take tour the building and see where their very own American heritage began.
