LeaderStat Premier has been retained by the CEO of National Church Residences located in Upper Arlington, OH, a suburb of Columbus, to assist in the search for the Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer Senior Living.  National Church Residences is a nationally respected, innovative leader in integrating housing, healthcare and supportive services for seniors of all income levels, veterans and families. The organization is committed to expanding services in the areas of assisted living, full-service retirement communities, and the development of resources necessary to support these facilities. National Church Residences is also dedicated to creating a culture of hospitality and a place for seniors to call home for the rest of their life.

National Church Residences is the largest not-for-profit based in central Ohio and employees approximately 3,325 staff members nationally. National Church Residences provides person-centered health care in a variety of settings including ten Residential Health Care Communities, three Home and Community Services Agencies, and six Adult Day Service Centers.  The annual revenue of Healthcare is approximately $125 Million, representing 40% of the overall revenue for National Church Residences. 

To chart a pathway for growth, National Church Residences wants to serve as many seniors living outside their buildings as living in them. Their vision is to advance better living for all seniors, enabling them to remain home for life. Over the next five years National Church Residences will expand its facility-based healthcare specifically focused on housing for the aged and other vulnerable populations, as a platform for the delivery of supportive services with strong community support.  National Church Residences also plans to develop, implement and expand their unique model of care delivery, including home care, hospice, adult day, personal care, primary care and service coordination for seniors in communities specific to affordable housing and other independent living senior settings. This model of care is focused on a coordinated aging in place consumer-driven model.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Senior Living will oversee and direct the operation of National Church Residences’ healthcare operations including facility and home-based care. The Chief Operating Officer assumes responsibility for all facets of operations, measuring results toward approved strategic plans and desired quality outcomes. Job duties include: Service Delivery, Policy and Compliance, Financial Management and Oversight of all operating entities, and Census and Product Development.


The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader in integrating healthcare operations, collaborating with Housing, to provide supportive services for vulnerable populations, enabling them to live healthier and more satisfying lives. An ideal candidate will possess strong relationships within the senior living industry as well as superior communication, salesforce management and marketing skills. National Church Residences is seeking:

  •  A proven Senior Living or Healthcare executive with high integrity, vision, strong interpersonal relations skills and outstanding leadership ability. This executive will bring a track record of successful operations oversight, financial management, and team leadership.
  • An executive who possesses well-developed leadership experience in a multi-site nonprofit or for-profit Senior Living organizations; Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) network; multi-level Senior Care/Long Term Care organizations; hospital or health care systems; or captive multi-site Senior Care division in an acute care hospital or health system.
  • A visionary management professional, capable of inspiring staff around continuous performance improvement, ensuring the achievement of excellent customer service and care delivery, strong financial performance, high occupancy, strong operational performance and healthcare information technology transformation.
  • A leader who is able to build on a culture of respect for older adults and the dignity of seniors; who is sensitive to and committed to advancing this intellectually and culturally rich network of senior living communities.  An executive who is able to build on and expand an environment which offers a high quality of work life for team members across the organization.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in related field, Graduate degree preferred
  • 10 years experience in a senior level operations position, as well as significant long term care management experience.
